First 2013 Subaru BRZ Rolls off the Line in Japan

TOKYO — Fuji Heavy Industries marked the start of production Friday of the 2013 and companion at the Subaru plant in Gunma, . The factory also will build the 2013 for the U.S. market.

The new BRZ and are expected to begin reaching U.S. dealers in May.

The 2013 BRZ will be available in two trim levels. The BRZ Premium is expected to be priced from around $25,000 and the BRZ Limited from around $28,000, including shipping. In due to strong dollar, the price should be about the same.

Subaru dealers last week said the BRZ is expected to remain in short supply this year, with the U.S. market slated to get only 500 cars a month during model year 2013.

has said the FR-S will be priced “from under $30,000.”

Inside Line says: Judging from the lively initial response — even before official prices have been announced — those new BRZs can’t get off the boat soon enough.
