    UOA on E85 for TOYOTA 86 manual

    Hey all,

    This will be my diary of UOA's for everyone to observe running E85 Full Time. This is only the beginning, these 2 attached here were done at the same time, same oil sample. Why the variation on a few details is a mystery, I reckon Techenomics rushed this. Regardless, they both look pretty good, TBN is high, additives pack is still good, [email protected] is where it should be for this oil which is . . . . . . drumroll . . . . Castrol Edge Pro 0W20 SM/GF4 !

    Vehicle = 86 GTSMT
    ODO = 27,252kms
    KMS on Oil = 4762kms - E85 only
    NB: Winter temps

    Thoughts & comments welcome. Enjoy !

    Are you using the genuine air filter?

    Yes I am, only gets changed out at 45K from memory which is too long I think :/ I need to do a lot more uoa to confirm a trend. There's only one way dirt can get into an engine.

    Another UOA:

    Oil: Nulon Full Synth 5W30 SN GF5

    ODO: 30,807kms
    KMS on Oil: 3,555kms (2,412 E85)

    Another oil sample returning higher than usual fuel dilution, oil relatively new, I wonder if the heavier weight oil has anything to do with the fuel dilution? I usually baby the car, doesn't get revved all that often & gets 60-70% fwy use. Oil & coolant stays cool t/out. TBN has shot up to 10.3 after 3,555kms !? Interestingly enough the silicon levels have dropped even though same air filter. Will be using another Lab to do future UOA.

    Comments welcome.

    Using google-fu and internet armchair expertise, I'd hazard a guess that the fuel dilution could be due to the E85 tuning - are you running a flex fuel kit along with the tune?

    The oft e85 tunes tend to run a bit rich, the OL fuel table targets are ok but the maf scaling in the e85 tunes makes the tune run rich.

    the v2xx e85 tunes did not get the new maf scale that the petrol tunes did that removed the rich running.

    you can copy the maf scaling from the V2 petrol tune to your e85 tune and it should run a lot closer to afr targets in the ol fuel table, use the maf scale from the v2 stage 1 A01G tune.

    you can see this if you log commanded afr and afr on oft and do a wot run.

    No flex kit required as I always use the same fuel. Steve's right, shivs tune on E85 must be running rich somewhat, heck I can even smell it in the oil. I've been using v1.59 for months now, I normally don't use new tunes until they're well run-in so to speak & definitely no betas either. Only hours ago did I just flash the newest v2.062 tune. Why on earth did Shiv not alter the MAF scaling to all tunes ? I assume v1.59 was the same then ? I guess I'm going to have to alter that E85 tune although I'm yet to alter any, can't be too hard surely :|

    UOA on E85

    ALS_15_NOV_2014.pdf

    Another UOA:

    Oil: Nulon Full Synth 5W30 SN GF5

    ODO: 32,839kms
    KMS on Oil: 5,587kms (4,355kms on E85)

    OK, this UOA done by ALS Oilcheck & everything looks magic. No fuel dilution, no silicone issues, moly has disappeared though, TBN is strong. I'm happy with this if it stays this way. Oil got a long hot run of almost 300km's within 3-4 hrs may have also played a part in these figures. We'll see.

    Comments welcome.
