Turbocharged Subaru BRZ Speculated to be in development for 2014

According to drive.com.au a Turbo is being developed by Technica International (). It is speculated that the car would debute in 2014. Subaru has stated that they are not at all aware of any Turbo developments for the . The engine being developed could be very similar to the new engine developed for the Subaru . The engine would feature a twin-scroll turbo and Subaru’s own Direct Injection system. Expected power output would palce it at 209kW and 340nm of torque. If true this should see the car properl from 0-100 in around five seconds. The current BRZ with 147kW and 205nm of Torque does the dash in around seven seconds.

Previously it has been reported that neither Subaru or had intentions of adding forced induction to the pair to maintain the cars pure sports car philosophy and also due to lack of space for an intercooler. However a number of tuners are very close to releasing their kits showing that this is indeed possible. We have also heard speculations that Toyota and Subaru had a gentlemens agreement that no further power would be added to the cars for at least 18 months. However, this would definately further differentiate the two products and also regenerate demand as it slows in the future. Would toyota respond with its own Turbo system or do they favour supercharging? It would certianly be more interesting if each company had a different method of forced induction.
